Charcoal Canister Delete (yes I've searched)

Hey the gsxr1000 I got is a Cali model so it has the charcoal canister. Reference the following diagram: http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche....=13&A=296&B=40

Starting with item #1 it connects to the vent at the bottom of the fuel tank. Basically I deleted everything downstream of the hose listed as item #2 and routed that vent hose down with the rest of them.

Question is, what is item #4's (fuel shut off valve) purpose? Item #13 is a check valve (tank pressure control valve). Any reason I should leave either or both of these in place if I'm just venting the tank?

I am sure you found the answer to this a while ago but I will put in my two cents for anyone searching in the future. This may end up as a wall of text but I feel that it is relevant. Personally I do not see a point in deleting the canister in the first place unless it is a track bike. The entire system does not weigh that much and it does not rob from your power. From what I understand, it's main function is to disallow HC (Hydrocarbons) from the fuel to be vented to the atmosphere. Your gas tank NEEDS to be able to breathe to equalize the pressures from the changing temperatures, elevations, etc. A pure vent (think open hose from tank to environment) will allow the hydrocarbons to escape and moisture to be introduced into the tank. The emissions system tries to block both from happening with the introduction of a charcoal canister and a valve. The canister is environmentally friendly, does not rob from your power, equalizes the pressures from inside and outside your fuel tank, reduces moisture introduced into your tank, and has no long-term detriments. I do not see any reason for removing it unless it is purely for a track bike and you need to shed every last ounce of weight. If that is the case, most of us could go on a diet and shed more weight than the entire system in the first place. If anyone disagrees with my comment or is more informed on the topic, I would love to learn more about the system and I welcome the info.
