3rd time is not the charm..

here are pix of 3rd and final KN oil filter, just gonna buy OE from now on. all 3 had to be punctures to be removed, the spanner(bolt did not allow to get a grip), nor the pliers to remove oil filters worked. tried vise gripes near the end to try and get a hold of the bolt but just got crushed and could not get a hold of it. i even had to do, what ive done twice before and take off the fairings to get to the filter.

Someone's been over-tightening your oil filters? No need to torque 'em down to ungodly amounts of ft/lbs...

I had the same thing happen when I did my 1st oil change on my new bike the nut was rounded off before I started.
There is no need to make them as tight as hell. Just do up by hand tight then run bike worm it up then give it a 1/4 to 1/2 turn when it's wormed up.

Re: 3rd time is not the charm..

Are you putting a thin film of oil onn the gasket before installing new filter?
I always hand tighten mine and hand loosen and never had one come loose.

Re: 3rd time is not the charm..

well i didnt over tighten, i did put on a light coat of oil on gasket.. i usually dont even take off the fairings as my hands fit to remove the filter and can usually be done by hand or with the pliers to just loosen if it slips in my hand.. but live and learn. i know the first oil change i did on the bike, im pretty sure i over tighned just a tad. but the rest, 1/4 to a 1/3 of a turn after first contact of the gasket.
