1996 Gsxr 750 Wont Start

hey guys, just bought my buddys 1996 Gixxer, 750cc, 38k, the bike ran great before, sat thru this whole summer hasnt been touched, i put a new battery today, flushed and cleaned the tank, took the carbs off and cleaned all the jets and everything put fresh gas, i put everythin back together and go for a start, cranks over but wont fire up, i have spark, if i spray fuel into the carbs directly it wil fire up then dies, its most likely a fuel issue , what can cause this any help is appriciated guys

Give it good dose of cranking it should start. Mine sat for two months, did what you did, took a while for it to catch. Had to crank it, off and on, for a good minute.

Maybe the floats need to be adjusted.

Before adjusting the floats. did you check to make sure the vacuum line is connected to the petcock on the bottom of the tank?
If it is not, the tank will not flow fuel to the carbs.

Also check that the fuel pump is pumping.

pull the gas line that runs from petcock to carb pulled it off by the car and there is gas pooring out of it when i turn the key , witch mean , im not getting fuel into my fuel rail

Stock, there is a small filter (screen) located just inside the fuel rail connection. Check for it and make sure it is clear.

Re: 1996 Gsxr 750 Wont Start

so i was messing around today with the carbs, pulled them off again, and what i noticed was that the fuel isnt getting into the carbs at all , so i took it apart tried pooring carb cleaner into the fuel inlet rail, and blowing it out wit a compresor, and still nothing, i put a little bit of fuel into the fuel rail niple and it just stays in the niple, doesnt flow thru into the float bowl, what should i do ?

The fuel pumps on these srads are almost suicidal.
They frequently seize up from inactivity and i suspect yours has done just that!
If it was running fine pre season and you cleaned the carbs and it appears to not be getting fuel, then the pump is definitely suspect here!
Raise the tank and give the fuel pumps base plate:
1-A stern look-see
2-A tongue lashing
3-A verbal bashing
4-A few taps with a plastic mallet
5-50 swings with a 5lb sledge

I'm no expert but i'd opt for #4 first!

Gas is flowing from the fuel line but the carbs bowls are dry?
Most curious.
Flowing like dribbling out, as in gravity fed or FLOWING, as in squirting across the room under pressure?

Do you have the air box on and connected to the vent tube? The vent tube connects under the front of the air box.

Cold engine, let it warm up first.

LEAVE the throttle alone.

^ Haha, yea man. Don't rape the bike.

Maybe your bike is running rich, and that could be the reason it dies when you open up the trottle alot.

Re: 1996 Gsxr 750 Wont Start

went to start it today , didnt fire up , i pulled the tank off , cylinder 1 and 2 throtle boddies were soaked with fuel tried starting it fired up and ran and IDLE'd by it self for a good minute :S, really weird, wha im guessing is the float needles were siezed i had to use a pin to get them out, most likely the rubber piece on the end of it got damaged and thats wha most likely the problem is

Sounds like a float needle problem for sure

Re: 1996 Gsxr 750 Wont Start

Have something similar on the 97 750. Sradiator and I were looking at the bike and trying to get it started for almost two hours. Make sure the plug wires are in the right order. vacuum lines need to be freed up. I'm giving the bike a looksey today to make sure everything is plugged up how it should. Give us an update if you've figured it out.
