WTF is a "carter", and why do you need to protect it?

Doesn't he have secret service protection already? Maybe we should report this guy to homeland security?

I've attached the part that i'm referring about. This particulair point is very weak with the gsxr. Normally you would have your fairings but in case of an streetfighter it fails first. Oil was pouring out like mad.

I obviously want to protect it from happening again i case of sliding my bike somehow.

I did this.

First made a aluminium plate and then attached a nylon block with velcro on it.

Definitely one of the weak points of the engine.

That parts actually sticks more out the the cyllinder head and the only thing that protects from the pavement is 3mm thick abs plastic.

I took the idea from TJS's gsx-r which futures a similar protection.

They should have incorporated a replaceable puck into that design but that would have cost an extra 50 cents at the production end which would have translated in 500.00 at the retail end.

The bottom bolt that hold the aluminium casing protection is special threaded.

The same thread they used for the older mirrors on bikes.

I tought M10x1 or M10x1.25 but i'm not sure anymore.

Re: best gsxr 1100w carter protection

That bolt is acutally a plug for the oil channel that feeds oil to your crankshaft.

So make sure that bolt isnt to long or you will block off the oil lubrication for the left side of the crankshaft.

I was thinking about this last night but you could aswell just put some sliders in the lower bolt couldn't you?

Re: best gsxr 1100w carter protection

I think the pressure on the slider would crack the engine casing...

Ben's method is much safer...
