So a couple slabbies have fallen in my lap....the first is an 87 1100....apparently it was used for drag racing...it's been sitting a lotta years but it runs.....doesn't have correct wheels and no airbox....I'm no expert on slabbies so any thoughts or advice on what to look for before buying?
The second flame bike is an 86 750 that the guy raced for 5 years...it seems like the uppers and mids are wrong? He says it runs but doesn't presently have a fuel line hooked up as he only has use of one arm( waded his busa bad) but says it will run.
Would parts transfer between the two?
He wants 2300 usd for both....both have clean title.... Any advice would be Awsome
Hi mate the 1100 if it is a late nov /dec 87 build might be an 88 J model .(88 here in australia ) it has the J model foot pegs ,they have rubber on them and the G and H models don't . The J also came out with the wider 3 spoke wheels ,the G and H models have the same style of wheels as the ones on the 750 with flames but are skinnier again than 1100 wheels . If those wheels on the blue 87 have enkie stamped on them and are 18 x 4.5 inch then they are the right wheels for a J model 1100 .I can't really see the front fairings on the 750 too clearly in your photos , they should look exactly like the 1100 ones . If he raced it ,check them they could be fibreglass ones .thats pretty low mileage on the 1100 , great bikes . I can't comment on the price sorry mate because I live in australia , if they were here for that price I would buy em .as for swapping bits , some bits fit but alot of them don't , there is a sticky at the top of this forum with known swaps , check that out and all will be revealed , take it easy mate hope that helps a bit .
Thanks for the detailed response! I'm im Canada....right on the border to US, so I can get them home round trip in about 4 hours.....the slabbies are very rare here as well.....don't think I can go wrong at 2300.
It has come to the situation that the engines are the less difficult parts to obtain so it looks. A few years ago a frame was grind into pieces, nowadays guys want only the frame of my project since the rest is not that difficult if you're not aiming for a 100% original bike. So although these might have had a hard time in the past I think it's still a pretty good deal. Engines are up for grabs so you can't go very wrong imho. The 750 seems to have a nice yoshi too.
Nice , definitely not limited edition paint schemes mate , he is having you on ,watch him he probably has some used cars for sale too lol. Now that you know its a J model there are two more differences between the J and the G/H models . The J has a slightly bigger oil cooler ,hard to pick it but if you need to replace it one day the G/H ones won't fit without a bit of modification, they bolt into the top mounting holes but won't sit in the bottom lugs as the J oil cooler is longer .The only other difference that I'm aware of is that the side stand was improved on that year so the bike isn't as upright when on the side stand compared to the G/H . the tank might be a slightly different shape and hold an extra litre of fuel but I can't remember ,my memory is a bit like swiss cheese these days lol ,
