So I have a 1992 gsxr 750 last year of the oil cooled. I'm having a idle issue, It used to idea down perfect just after coming to a stop, but now it seems like it doesn't idle down unless I give it a load, like having it in first gear and letting out the clutch. It got worse gradually I thought it might be the heat but now it's cooling down and nothing's changed still not idling down. Could it be running lean? Idk need help lol
Blip the throttle when it's warm - if the revs hang, it's lean - if the revs drop below tick-over it's rich on the mixture screws.
As it's happened over the past year, then it sounds like an air filter getting clogged, or perhaps the valve clearances need adjusting - could be that the carbs need balancing. Does sound like a service is required - good for peace of mind and she'll be good for another 3k miles or so.
Please post a photo of your baby - it's almost the rule here - can never see too many Oilers !!
^^^^ First post just about covers your possible culprits. Personally, I'd look at carb sync first. Nobody ever seems to sync the carbs and it makes such a difference!
Thanks guys! Yeah I'll check the pod filters I have on it. And yeah maybe due for a valve adjustment :/ I just hit 37xxx. But recently got the carbs rebuilt by my local shop, maybe the synced them off just a little? I don't no how the synchronizing works lol but I'll keep you guys posted. And I'm trying to get a pic up, just got to figure out how lol
Pod filters are notorious for making carb tuning difficult. If the shop did not put everything back to the settings you had before the rebuild and used the factory specs you need to re tune the carbs.
I doubt it would be you valve clearances. They usually go tight on these bikes causing the cylinder not to fire, which would make your idle go down or barely idle at all. OG is probably right, vacuum leak or maybe your throttle cable is not snapping back as it should. Spray carb cleaner around the boots and front of your carbs to see if the idle changes. If it does, you found your problem. :cheers
So I have some K&n on it right now they look like those k&n's ru 2922's but they could be old, so should I buy newer K&n ru 2922 or try to find an original air box that has one big K&n at the end? And thanks for all the advice I'll try the starter fluid thing next I'll also check out my throttle lever, is ther anything specific to look for? Iv noticed its a little loose. Lol
