So i got my all the wrong parts motor together. I have about $70 and a motor swap for a friend in to it along with the time of putting it together.
It's 599cc... it's an '87 750 cases crank and rods, Katana 600 head cylinders and pistons, '90 transmission and '91 cams and clutch. it is all going in to a '87 1100 frame, '87 750 swingarm, '90 forks, breaks and wheels, '91 rotors. I was thinking of using the 88-89 cdi box so it can rev to 12,500 rpm. Not sure on the shock yet i'm getting and ohlins for a 88-92 750 but i also have a '90 shock and an '87 1100 to choose from. for plastic i have a selection too.
I have run in to an issue with the sprocket cover the only ones i have have the actuater so i'm trying to make a battery box cover but i don't have the money or ability to weld aluminum so it's going to be steel so it's still kinda up in the air...
the sum total of the parts has thrown a rod and been in a shop fire (90 750), had detonation (87 750), been wrecked ruined the cases (Katana 600) and the 91 bent 4 valves the first time over so i guess it's a bit more of a resurrection of parts i had laying around.
i left out that i'm going to run the 87 750 31mm cv carbs which is fitting being that the 600 has 31mm intake ports.
they are both shim motors the katana 600 crank is almost indistinguishable from the 87 750 the are the same stroke and have the same casting marks (i had 2 750 cranks and a katana 600 crank next to each other though the katana could be lighter i could check next time i'm out in the shop since i have an 87 and katana crank accessible). as for the cams i went with the 91 because they have a longer duration and the lobes are more aggressive. the Kat guys are looking for GSX-R cams pretty regular. I have already sole a set of 89 cams and am waiting on the payment for a set of 90 cams.
well i had the whole thing together about two weeks ago but searched and searched and couldn't find the plates for the clutch...odd considering i have two baskets. then i started looking at what i did have and a friend gave me he '91 clutch and cover minus the site glass so swapped the site glass from a damaged clutch cover and got at it. i split the cases and had it all back together in about 3 hours. the annoying part is that i have to do a yank the motor out of '87 1100 that it's going in, the 1052 that is in it has 79k on the original motor still runs ok but starting to smoke when you really get on it. that motor is going in the other '87 1100 so it can go through the highway patrol and still be titled as an 1100 though i think i would rather put the 600 in the latter rather than the prior. so i may be looking at 3 motor swaps. on another note i should be picking up the rest of the 89 750 rat bike it has a fibergalss watercooled tail section and is pretty beat but there is $300 worth of stuff to it.

So it's still late winter here, but it's getting warm enough to make room in the shop to do stuff, and the bonus is i have a job this year, so the bill on putting it together can go up. i also got a in bad shape 89 (frame repaired and tank flat) for $300 but good wheels, swingarm 97% complete motor with carbs and electric system and all the extra hardware. i'm working on getting the remnants of my friends Oil cooled fixation it ended when he parted out his ten year street fighter project (2/3 of it can be seen on here) and found two 87 NSR 250's, they are cute.

so you were on to something, the GSX-R cam lobes are a lot narrower than the Katana 600 and it's looks like it might try to push the valve rocker to the side. so stock cams......
so i got to run one through State inspection but if it has anything but an 1100 they will change the title so i get some busy work of putting in an 1100 to then take it out. i'm going to see if i have to do the same with the other but i shouldn't.
any how so my plan has gotten a bit more together but still strange.
So I was going to put 90 750 front forks but use the original 18" but with a single 91-92 slotted rotor but drilled too. 86-87 750 swing arm (may be still not sure), the rear I'm not sure for the rotor but to try find the best two pot I got for the larger rear rotor. For the seat I was planning on merging a fiberglass 90 style tale with an 87 seat and use leds for the signals and taillights trying to keep it light, an acerbis cyclops head light with out the silly wind screen and a trail tech (not sure which one) for the gauges. 87 750 carbs, and i was tryng to figure out a way to have a steering stabilizer but the original 1100 won't work and i have a 90 750 so i may toy with that idea.
Now yea I get that having all the brakes you can is the best idea but I'm trying to make it as light as i can if need be i can always add another, but it is going to be a 599cc 87 1100 as stripped as it can get.

I hope I can get the funds to get to be a runner this spring my Jeep gets about 14-18 MPG and it should get about three times that.
the project got hung up when i got screwed doing web work for my brother.....as the saying goes it was my fault this time.....
The 91 triples are the rare ones i wish i knew back when that they would be so useful, I got a couple sets of 90 forks because they were lighter than the USD and just as adjustable. All the stuff i have piled around is my fathers collection from his aspirations of racing and then reality set in, his age and such. Most of it has collected dust for the last 10 years. The Lower end of that motor i reassembled i helped swap out in 1996 it sat in crates since then. The one with the white fairing was last licensed in 1991 and the other in 2002 it has 78k on the original motor.
So really it is a matter of something has to be done with it and as i have found my sentimental attachment to the slabsides values them a bit higher than the actual value though i know i do have some of the fastest lost OEM parts and my dad was pretty good at getting extras of stuff that would wear out.
