There is good science in this.
Light weight wheels make a significant difference to a bikes acceleration.
One of the reasons the BST's are so good is not just that they are light but the rim is light (where another wheel may be nearly as light but it's heavier in the rim and lighter in the hub)
The light rim is better as it makes more difference to the moment of inertia.
In simple terms, the further from the axle the weight is the more effort required to get it spinning.
This makes the tyres even more important.
The tyre is even further away from the center of the wheel so any weight reduction is even more significant than the wheel.
Obviously there needs to be a decent amount of weight difference but I'd be interested to see if some tyres are significantly lighter than others.
