DIfference between K8 and K9

Hi all,

Im looking at getting a gsxr600 - i've been told by the shop its an unregistered 09 model, but the tag they've got on the bike says 2008 - is there any easy way to find out whether it is actually a k8 or k9?

want to make sure they arent trying to sell me a K8 that they say is an k9!

Thanks

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

The only difference between K8 and K9 is color. My K9 VIN tag says 08 on it but the bike is an 09. (Light blue/white with white rims).

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

K9 600s have a gay tribal graphic shit going on, K8's didn't, i guess that's the easiest way to know. Only other way is to read the emission control label on the frame. It will say something like this emission motorcycle conforms to the year model XXXX federal emission requirements, yadada etc....

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

Thanks for all the suggestions

I've got a suzuki brochure infront of me now though - "The Range 2009" and looking at the 600:

Rear footrests and brackets are silver on both blue/white and black models (1000 has the black ones, 750 and 600 are both silver)

no tribal graphics on either colour (all models)

ref the colour being different (lighter blue?) - only the 1000 seems to have the lighter blue, with black wheels - the 750 and 600 both seem to have the darker blue - with same colour wheels

Can anyone confirm the vin definitely shows the k- model number and if so where it is? is it the 10th number? as mentioned already???

thanks

K9 is definetly a lighter blue, the 600 has white rims, 750 and 1000 have black. Look at my avatar.

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

Could it be different countries then (maybe?) - (im in the UK)

the brochure is a genuine suzuki one, and it doesnt show any gsxr with white wheels, it also doesnt show any white models which i thought they did in k9's

its got the blue/white as the main image with a black one on the side, but no white, which im sure they did?!

im soooooo confused now

Yep it could be completely different in the UK. I cant help you out on that one. Mechanically the K8 and K9 are the same though.

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

in terms of difference in build, there is absolutely no difference, they didnt make any changes to the gixxer 6 for 09, they have kept the same model as the 08, my bike is an 08, but i had it registered in 09, so my bike will be a new model for the rest of this year too... so i guess the only difference is what they guys were saying further up about numbers... and as for colours, i aint too sure about that side of it!

No difference but colors, and they vary with country.

Check the vin number. 10th digit will tell you

Suzuki commonly reuses pictures from previous catalogs if the changes on the bike is very minimal, so don't be surprised if it shows 08 bikes pictures in the 09 catalog. 09 bikes seems to be running either white wheels, black or a gray gunmetal wheels. But of course im not sure if North American models vary in color and or combination's.

What about the weight isn't thatdifferent from 08 to 09. I heard the 09's were like 30-50 pounds heavier. Is this correct?

Re: DIfference between K8 and K9

All figures according to the servicemanual(Yes I bought it): The 2008 model figures where drymass 167 Kg and the 2009 model figures where "curbweight" aka with battery and all fluids(including fuel) 198kg. To me 17 litres of fuel, 2.9 litres of engineoil(overhaul), 2.7 liters of engine coolant, 0.84liters of suspension oil and a battery could make up that difference. 23.4 liters of fluid at 0.7 kg + 4 kg of battery is aprox 21kg = the difference.

Simple, 08 models went by dry weight, 09s are going by wet weight figures.
