Hello from the 619!

Hi guys,

New rider from the 619 area, just bought a salvaged '06 GSXR 600 and VERY eager to get out on the road.

Bike was purchased in its naked form and I've added LED strip turn signals(PIAA rf6 fog beam and LP560driving beam on the way) as well as rigging the speedo to the triple clamp. I have some experience on Dirt Bikes and quads, and after reading a lot of posts and watching videos, I see an error may have been made on this Gixxer 6 for a first street bike. I'll be as safe as i can be and hopefully be posting for a long long time. I will try to post photographs of my ride as soon as I can and will also lurk in the forum to see others setups.

Again, I am excited to get out there and meet other riders in my area and to develop my skills as a rider.

Re: Hello from the 619!

Salvaged huh? Was it in a wreck? I would suggest going over it with a fine tooth comb to make sure everything is tight and in line before riding it.

Check motor mounts for torque, check head Bearings for play, check the swing arm and axles are torqued to spec, if you have stands check for free play in the wheels (wheel bearings).

Re: Hello from the 619!

Welcome to GDC!

I can understand your eagerness but as Maniac said that bike needs to be inspected before you start riding around. It sounds like you are doing some reading and research which is good so you realize that a super sport is unforgiving and you don't want to be at a further disadvantage if the bike has issues resulting from its crash. Post up some pics and we might be able to provide some more insight.

Re: Hello from the 619!

I was looking at a KTM RC390 but the bike was purchased on a whim by my father through a friend who does have experience with motorcycles. He is part of a couple motorcycle clubs in Mexico, and he did inspect the bike. He said he got it over 100mph on the freeway and said it felt solid at those speeds and that the brakes were also solid. The bike shows signs of a low side crash on the right side but nothing else to my eyes. I did take it out for a quick ride down a small stretch of private road(which now seems irresponsible) and didn't feel anything to raise any alarms. I'll still check for play on the bearings and get some photos up next week on my days off. For now, I am on foot or carpooling to work.

Thanks for the helpful replies, Ill be back with pics soon.

Welcome. Where is 619? I don't have all of the area codes in the entire country memorized just yet.

San Diego, as per google. Apparently, no one really knows what 'San Diego' means - it's quite a mystery

I'd LOVE to get one of those - like a ninja 250, sharper handling and with a little more grunt for a full-sized adult

Im leaving it naked, I really like the look. I have looked into the cost of fairings and the lowest full fairings price I've seen is around $500 but I've read that the dimensions may be off and it would take some work to get them to fit properly. If anything I'll probably spray paint the bike.

I went there on vacation a couple years ago, thought it was nice. Rented an F650GS with my wife and did some exploring around.

Re: Hello from the 619!

It is nice down here, it is rarely too hot or too cold in my opinion. We did just get a few good bouts of rain but even then, rain is pretty rare.

What's with that screen name? Are you the king of broth? (consomé)

It's been a curiously-steady -13 to -16 the past 4 days here, with lots of snow.

FINALLY someone got it.

It was my first email, not really an interesting story. I was in my early teens and my cousin told me I should get an email but I couldn't come up with a user name since it seemed like I was marrying it I wanted it to be something "good". My cousin's email had taco in the name and at the time there was a little Mex restaurant that had broth I really liked so changed the C to a K and almost 10 years later I still use it as a handle for some things.

Like I said, not an interesting story. Now everybody will know how lame and unoriginal I am.

Welcome to the site. I was born in San Diego and have been a lifetime Chargers fan. Pretty bummed they moved.
